Paneer Butter Masala is one of the most loved dishes on any Indian restaurant menu. Here's how to make that same creamy, rich gravy at home.
Ingredients
- 250g paneer, cubed
- 3 large tomatoes
- 2 onions
- 10 cashews
- 2 tbsp butter + 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp red chilli powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1 tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp fresh cream, 1 tsp kasuri methi, salt to taste
Method
- Boil tomatoes, onions and cashews for 10 minutes, then blend into a smooth puree.
- Heat butter + oil, add ginger-garlic paste and saute for a minute.
- Add the puree and all dry spices. Cook on medium heat until the oil separates (about 8-10 min).
- Add 1/2 cup water, the paneer cubes and cream. Simmer 5 minutes.
- Crush kasuri methi between your palms and stir in. Serve hot with naan or jeera rice.
Chef tip
Soak the paneer in warm water for 10 minutes before adding — it stays soft and absorbs the gravy beautifully.
