Paneer Butter Masala — Restaurant-Style Recipe at Home

Paneer Butter Masala is one of the most loved dishes on any Indian restaurant menu. Here's how to make that same creamy, rich gravy at home.

Ingredients

  • 250g paneer, cubed
  • 3 large tomatoes
  • 2 onions
  • 10 cashews
  • 2 tbsp butter + 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp fresh cream, 1 tsp kasuri methi, salt to taste

Method

  1. Boil tomatoes, onions and cashews for 10 minutes, then blend into a smooth puree.
  2. Heat butter + oil, add ginger-garlic paste and saute for a minute.
  3. Add the puree and all dry spices. Cook on medium heat until the oil separates (about 8-10 min).
  4. Add 1/2 cup water, the paneer cubes and cream. Simmer 5 minutes.
  5. Crush kasuri methi between your palms and stir in. Serve hot with naan or jeera rice.

Chef tip

Soak the paneer in warm water for 10 minutes before adding — it stays soft and absorbs the gravy beautifully.
